Rough Island Equestrian Park in Tasman is home to a fabulous equestrian facility catering for different horse-riding groups and individuals. The park has both dressage and western arenas, cross-country and show jumps as well as wonderful riding trails through the island forestry. Riders and Horses are also permitted on the southern end of Rabbit Island beach.

Located a convenient 20-minute drive from central Nelson, the equestrian park provides separate facilities for both English and Western styles.

The park is situated on approximately 46 acres of Tasman District Council owned Recreation Reserve on Rough Island, and managed by the Rough Island Equestrian Park Management Board Inc.

The park is open 7 days a week for public use, and is currently home to 5 equestrian groups, Nelson Western Riding Club, Nelson Dressage Group, Nelson Bays Pony Club, Nelson Riding Club and Waimea Pony Club, and is also used by many more equestrian disciplines on a regular basis.

 

Facilities include:

  • Dressage Competition Arena (90m x 75m)

  • Warm Up Arena (90m x 60m)

  • X Country Course

  • Western Arena (80m x 40m oval)

  • Grass Areas (for show jumping / showing classes / games)

  • Kitchen / Club Room
